25 Free Things to Do in Boca Raton

Boca has a reputation for being expensive. Here is a full weekend of things that cost nothing at all.

Nature that costs nothing

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is free — the aquariums, the sea turtle rehabilitation viewing area and the boardwalk to the observation tower. Daggerwing Nature Center in west Boca is free and quieter. Twenty minutes north, Wakodahatchee Wetlands and Green Cay Wetlands put you on boardwalks over open water where nesting wood storks, spoonbills and alligators are the everyday sighting rather than the lucky one.

Free by the water

The Boca Inlet jetty is the best free viewpoint in the city for watching yachts run the pass. The El Rio Trail gives you six paved, shaded miles away from traffic. On Palm Beach Island, the Lake Trail is a flat, car-free 5.5 miles along the Intracoastal.

Free culture

The sculpture garden outside the Boca Raton Museum of Art is open to the street. The Norton Museum in West Palm is free on Fridays and Saturdays. Worth Avenue's vias — the hidden Mediterranean courtyards off the main shopping strip — cost nothing to wander and photograph.

Free events

Mizner Park Amphitheater and Sunset Cove Amphitheater both run free concert nights through the season. Green markets in Boca, Delray and West Palm are free to browse. Delray's Pineapple Grove Art Walk opens galleries late once a month.

Free by default

Every beach in the county is free to enter. Sunrise over the Atlantic is the best show in Boca Raton and it starts around 6:30 in summer and 7:10 in winter. Park on the street near South Beach Park and you will not spend a dollar.
